Halcón’s first official match was the Community Shield against the Championship side Wigan Athletic.

While Manchester United are the usual competitor in this competition, with sir Alex Ferguson himself winning 10 of the 21 trophies for the Red Devils. Halcón is expected to win this match and to start his legacy with a trophy.

Wigan Athletic on the other side are a team that weren’t expecting to be here, they currently play their football in the Championship, having been relegated last year finishing in 18th place, 3 points behind Sunderland. However in the same year they’ve managed to win the FA Cup, beating Manchester City with a last minute goal.

Match Highlights

The teams were evenly matched in the beginning of the match, until Rafael pushed Cairney in the box, Ben Watson opened the scoring with a goal from the penalty spot in the 16th minute.

Wigan held the lead until the 27th minute when Kagawa found Rafael who ran through the Wigan defence and evened the score with an excellent finish.

The score was even at 1-1 until the 58th minute when Chicharito received an inch perfect pass from Zaha and took the lead for the Red Devils with an excellent strike.

Chicharito extended United’s lead just two minutes later in the 60th minute to make it a brace for himself.

United were given a penalty in the 62nd minute after James McArthur clattered Darren Fletcher in the box. Rooney stepped up, however the keeper read his mind and saved the shot.

In the 63rd minute, the United wonderkid Wilfried Zaha opened his account with a goal on his debut.

The Japanese superstar Shinji Kagawa also added his name to the scoresheet with a composed finish in the 73rd minute.

The United legend Wayne Rooney added to the goals with a calm finish in the 75th minute.

The debutant wing back Lucas Digne made an impact in the dying embers of the game scoring in the 85th minute.

Shinji Kagawa made it a brace for himself with a goal in the 87th minute, he’s been unstoppable today, that’s two goals and two assists for the talented attacker.

When asked to comment Halcón said it was a sign of things to come and that he hopes to add more to the clubs already rich history. He hailed Kagawa’s performance as a masterclass in attacking and added how pleased he was that he has a creative genius and a lethal finisher.

Halcón added that the youngsters Zaha and Digne made wonderful first impressions and that we will be seeing more of them for years to come.

Finally he commented that he will be looking to add more youth to the squad by focusing on promoting players from United’s state of the art academy and signing foreign u21 talent to make the squad ready for the future.

Next up for the Red Devils is the opening of the Premier League, where they are meeting Cardiff at the Theatre of Dreams.
